DAY 7 at CSW69: Fighting to Find Beauty

Not gonna lie— today was a horrible day. I spent most of the day sick as a dog and unable to leave my hotel room. I had such grand plans to attend so many sessions today and meet up with new friends, but alas, that was clearly not meant to be.
Around 2:15 I finally managed to crawl into some clothes and head downstairs to get a mint tea. As I had it back to the elevator, I realized that the 2:30 session was actually in my hotel on the second floor. I was out of my bed ( never mind that my my headache was so horrible, but I could hardly see. But I figured it was in a ballroom so I could sneak in the back, take a quick look, maybe snap a few pictures and have a little bit of something to report back.

Little did I know I would stumble on to an absolutely incredible sustainable fashion display by a school in Vancouver lead by a woman named Mana. She was clearly so proud of her students, and the people admiring their art. Despite there being a speaker at the front of the room (who was forming on about some statistics that no one really was excited to hear about) she came back to tell me all about her school and her students. She said I should come out to Vancouver and do research sometime. I’m afraid with my messy bun my new SMASH hoodie and my crappy yoga pants that I didn’t make the best impression, but she just didn’t care. She was so excited that I was there to support her students and that I thought their work was beautiful.
I was miserable and cupping my very hot tea, so some of these pics aren’t the best… but I’ll leave you to decide what your thoughts are on these various different sustainable fashion concepts from students of all ages!

My Question:
What permission and encouragement can I give young people to explore new art?
And with that, sweet dreams — I’ll be back tomorrow!
